SCUBA Diving in Grenada

Ms. Cook in her SCUBA gear

Here I am ready to go SCUBA diving. In order to SCUBA dive you need to wear:

  • a wet suit (to keep you warm under water)
  • fins (to help you travel through the water more easily)
  • a weight belt (to help you stay under the water during your dive)
  • a B.C.D. or Buoyancy Control Device - an inflatable vest (this helps you stay at water level or stay under water when you want to)
  • a regulator (That's what I have in my mouth. It is hooked up to an air tank on my back. This is how you are able to breathe under water. It is a lot like the tanks the firefighters use.) The regulator also has an extra air supply mouth piece in case of emergency, a compass to determine your direction, a depth measurement device, and an air quantity meter to tell you how much air supply is still available.
  • a mask (so you can see more clearly under water)
  • a snorkel (which can be used when you are on the top of the water)
We took a boat out to our dive site and did a backwards roll off of the boat with our gear on.
Here are some of the sights we saw while SCUBA diving.
These are Sergeant Major fish, with yellow and black stripes.
A beautiful blue fish.
This is a trumpet fish.
This is my husband, Paul Gorbould, snorkelling after our dive.
