A cheetah can reach speeds up to 112 kilometres per hour,
but it must catch its prey within 300 metres, or the cheetah runs out of
steam. Like other cats, the cheetah sneaks up on its prey and gets as close
as it can before making a very quick attack. |

Did you know that female lions stay in the area where their
mothers lived? Male lions have to leave the area when they become adolescents
and after two or three years of living on their own, they look for a family
(or pride) to take over. Male adults live with this pride until the first
set of their cubs are about two years old. |

Hyenas are pretty scary! They have strong, high shoulders
and massive jaws. An adult hyena can catch a male (bull) wildebeest, and
a pack of hyenas can kill even bigger prey. We could hear the hyenas "laughing"
(it really sounded like they were cackling) in the distance as we sat around
the fire eating our dinner and watching the sun go down. |
